Alford Alphonse was educated in Jamaica, Panama, and completed theological studies, culminating in his Doctorate, in the United Kingdom and the USA. He is married, to Hope Elaine Alphonse, nee Brodie, and they have five children and five grand-children. As Chaplain of Vitas Health Care (1998-2012), Dr. Alphonse was awarded the National Chaplaincy in 2002 in tribute to his outstanding quality of service. He has served as a Methodist Clergy person for over 50 years.
As a career pastor, he has never drawn a distinction between the the spiritual teachings of the Bible and social equity and justice. Instead, he has embraced the line of thinking embraced by others in the Judeo-Christian tradition who believe that the Bible and the Gospel call for spirituality to be integrated with social policy and attititudes.
